What is UL??
UL is an acronym for Underwriters Laboratories.
UL's purpose is to develop safety standards and to perform safety testing of customer products against those same standards.
UL was started by a group of insurance companies for the purpose of minimizing property-destroying fires that had become numerous with the beginning of the "electrical age."
What is a Standard?
A standard is a detailed listing of specifications and test procedures to assure a product's safety.
When developing a standard, safety engineers attempt to determine how a product should perform to assure safe operation.
Much of the standard involves how and where the product is to be used.
What is a UL Listing?
After a product has been evaluated for a fee, and it has passed all provisions of the applicable standard, it becomes a UL listed product.
Listings pertain only to items that are a final product to be produced by the company initiating the UL testing.
What is UL Recognition?
A product that has been tested and evaluated for its performance in a particular application.
A UL recognized product can only be used in the application it was tested under, based on the testing specifications (min/max temperature, surface or additional exposures).
Who needs a UL Listed label or decal?
Any Customer who will apply the label or decal to a UL listed product.
Can ALG meet your UL label needs?
YES!
ALG has over 25 printed UL approved systems and 33 thermal transfer systems to meet your UL label requirements. See the list of ALG UL approved systems below.
If one of our existing UL systems does not meet your UL requirements, ALG will work with you to get a suitable label construction, UL approved.
A marking and labeling system is a term used to describe the entire construction of a label or decal.
A system is composed of:
ALG designates a specific name for each system (i.e. ALG1, ALG2, etc.)
UL 969 is the "Standard for Marking and Labeling Systems" for all adhesive backed labels, decals and nameplates. These labels bearing information, instructions or identification are intended to be used by manufacturers for applications to their products.
Every UL Standard will delineate the UL label requirements. Many UL Standards only require meeting the UL 969 standard for labels and decals.
Below is the list of the basic UL 969 test.
