Materials specifically designed to perform outdoors, are utilized in the Digital, Flexographic and Screen Printing processes. These materials use UV inhibitors and other chemical enhancements to improve its weather-ability from the outdoor elements. To further extend the life of the decal, special laminations or topcoats can be added to provide
even greater UV and abrasion resistance.
Our different ink systems utilize pigments made with excellent light-fastness and other additives to extend outdoor life.
We utilize adhesives specifically formulated to stick to the toughest surfaces and engineered to perform
over a wide range of service temperatures.
Our commitment to our customer starts with these combinations of materials, laminations, inks and adhesives, ensuring we manufacture a quality, outdoor durable product.
ALG has many customers that require materials that will hold up to extreme humidity or even water immersion applications. ALG has worked with our material and ink manufacturers to provide the best materials for use in these harsh environments.
ALG performs in-house lab testing in conjunction with our material suppliers and UL testing to confirm the durability of the inks, material and adhesives.
ALG OUTDOOR LAB TESTING
As ALG is located in the southern hemisphere, consistently there is brutal sun and high humidity, two factors that can significantly impact durability.
ALG's In-House Lab is located on the roof of our plant facility and on any given week, has multiple tests being documented.
Printed labels are mounted to either customer provided surfaces or panels facing south at a 45- degree angle allowing for exposure to 100 percent direct sunlight, as well as the high humidity of the south.
UL 969 OUTDOOR TESTING
ALG has many solutions that are certified for UL Outdoor standards. All three of ALG's print solutions: Digital, Flexographic and Screen Print have products UL tested and approved to the UL standard 969 for Marking and Labeling. If your label and decals require outdoor durability and UL certification, then ALG is your one source with many solutions!

The Q-Sun Test Chamber tests how a specific
material or ink or process will fare when exposed
to the full spectrum of sunlight. It simulates and
accelerates these severe conditions for R&D as well as Quality Control.
The use of high heat, intense Xenon-Arc lamps in conjunction with high humidity can simulate years of exposures within a few months. ALG typically tests products for 2000-2500 hours to simulate 5+ years of outdoor exposure in harsh environments.
QUV Testing - is a weathering test using UV light, based on the concept that for durable materials, short-wave UV light causes the most weathering damage. This test tracks the amount of hours of exposure versus the results seen and weeks, months and years of exposure can be accelerated for quick results.
At ALG, we use this test in product development, when confirming UL standards are being met and when delivering a First Article on a new product.
